Every year at the end of June, the Chamonix valley becomes the setting for an international sporting event organized by the Club des sports de Chamonix... The Mont-Blanc Marathon!
More than 10,000 runners from all over the world take to the Alpine trails for a unique adventure on Europe's highest peak.
A legendary event in the heart of the Alps
The Mont Blanc Marathon isn't just a race, it's a real trail party!
Created in 1979 by the Club des Sports de Chamonix, each edition features 8 races spread over several days and for all levels.
Here are the must-haves:
- The KV (Kilomètre Vertical): 1000 metres of positive ascent over a short distance.
- The 10 km: a nature race, accessible to all.
- The 23 km: a very popular format, challenging without being extreme.
- The Marathon (42 km): the ultimate race, with iconic sections and breathtaking views of the Mont-Blanc massif.
- The 90 km du Mont-Blanc: a demanding ultra trail for seasoned runners.
And guess what else? Children can also take part in the Mini-Cross, in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

The values of the Mont Blanc Marathon
The Mont-Blanc Marathon embodies a strong commitment to the environment and to the exceptional region in which it is held. Faced with the visible effects of climate change on the region, the event is part of an eco-responsible approach, both sporting and cultural.
To reduce its impact, the organization is implementing a number of concrete actions: refreshments from local produce, elimination of plastic cups, waste sorting, limiting motorized transport, and raising awareness among participants.
But the Mont Blanc Marathon is also a deeply human adventure, marked by solidarity, sharing and inclusion. Thanks to the diversity of the events on offer. Everyone can find their place, whatever their level or experience.
